Frequently Asked Questions About Massage

Are there things I should avoid prior to a massage?
Alcoholic beverages should be avoided before any spa service.

What should I do before I get a massage?
Sharon will consult with you before each session and custom fit your massage to tailor your needs. Your safety and wellness are of great concern to us. If you are pregnant, have heart or circulatory problems, or have diabetes, please avoid all heat treatments such as steam and body cocoons. To assure the services you choose are not contraindicated, Sharon requests all clients fill out a client information form so she can find out any medications you are taking and any health problems or concerns you may have.

What Should I Do During the Massage or Bodywork Session?
Make yourself comfortable. Sharon will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. Feel free to ask questions about massage and bodywork in general or about the particular technique you are receiving.

How Often Should I Get a Massage?
Your therapist will evaluate, discuss, and recommend a treatment schedule according to your specific needs. Some clients need weekly appointments, some biweekly, some monthly. The more often you receive a massage the longer the benefits will be noticed. Remember sometimes it takes years to build up the pain you are experiencing. Easing the pain may not be overnight.

Must I Be Completely Undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort. You will be properly draped during the session.

Will the Therapist Be Present When I Disrobe?
Sharon will leave the room while you undress, relax on the table and cover yourself with the clean sheet provided.

Will I Be Covered During the Session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What should I do after my massage?
It is important that you drink plenty of water after a massage or body treatment in order to help flush out the toxins that may be released during massage and other Spa body services. Failure to do so may result in Flu-like symptoms.
